CEIS End of Year Report
The Hastings School District was identified for Mandatory Coordinating Early Intervention Services (CEIS) in 2025 due to a disproportionate number of Black or African American students receiving out-of-school suspensions. Consequently, the District is required to publicly report on updates made to policies and practices related to this significant disproportionality during the 2025–2026 school year.
Following a comprehensive review of district discipline policies, no policy revisions were determined to be necessary. However, the District identified staff practices and procedures for responding to disciplinary incidents as a primary area for growth. In response, the District invested in targeted professional development opportunities—including Check & Connect, Catalyst strategies, mental health services, and research-based interventions—for teachers, social workers, counselors, and paraprofessionals. These training opportunities focused on strengthening staff capacity to proactively respond to challenging behaviors and provide appropriate, individualized supports to meet student needs.
The intended outcomes of these initiatives were twofold: to reduce office discipline referrals compared to the previous year and to decrease out-of-school suspensions for Black students. We are pleased to report that the District successfully met both benchmarks.
Moving forward, the District remains firmly committed to ongoing investments in professional learning. These efforts will continue to equip our staff with the skills necessary to support students through challenging situations, including traumatic life events, behavioral dysregulation, and mental health crises.

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is supporting 180 schools and community organizations providing meals and snacks at over 715 meal sites across Minnesota this summer through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
"Every child deserves access to healthy meals year-round," said Commissioner Willie Jett. "These summer meals programs provide critical support to families and help ensure children can grow, learn, and succeed, even when school is not in session."
The Summer Food Service Program is a federal nutrition program funded by the USDA and administered by MDE. The program provides food to children ages 18 and younger and to those older than 18 with mental or physical disabilities who participate in school programs. Most summer meal sites can offer up to two meals per child per day between breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper.

Spanish and French Clubs met at the high school to celebrate Día de los muertos and La Toussaint. These holidays are both celebrations that aim to remember those who have passed before us and honor their memories. Spanish Club learned about different cultural traditions. French Club learned about the Parisian catacombs and built their own ossuaries. Both groups enjoyed sampling some spiced hot chocolate with pan de muerto.

Students in Ms. Knoll's 4th-grade class at Pinecrest got hands-on with their learning about the literal heart during Wit and Wisdom! 💓
They started by finding their partner’s pulse and then placed a piece of clay with a straw over the pulse point. By watching the straw move, they could see firsthand how the pulse works in the body. What a fun way to bring science to life! 👏

Congratulations, Ellie Gullicks, for being the Hastings High School Faculty Spotlight!
Thank you for all your work both in and out of the classroom. Ellie stepped up to teach the medical careers class for our students. She has been partnering with Regina Hospital to create a class to help our students learn more about medical careers and become CNA-certified. She has also devoted time to learn how to utilize our Anatomage Table in the classroom. Additionally, she has helped create a positive student experience outside of the school day, helping with fall danceline, show choir, track and field, and the Red Cross Club. We appreciate all you do for the students at HHS.
