Ms. Bjorlin recommends the novella, Seedfolks, by Paul Fleischman. A Vietnamese girl plants six lima beans in a Cleveland vacant lot. Looking down on the immigrant-filled neighborhood, a Romanian woman watches suspiciously. A school janitor gets involved, then a Guatemalan family. Additional characters arrive, and a sense of community sprouts and spreads. You will want to put this on your list of books to read! It is available at our HMS library as well as your local public library.

Ms. Bjorlin recommends a book that starts out with a young Vietnamese girl planting lima beans to honor her late father. The Clean Up, People! (CUP) Award competition is happening this spring to keep our spaces clean. Once each week, certain students and staff will rate how clean each of the following spaces are in each grade-level house: Bathrooms, Hallways, and Flexible areas like stairways and seating areas. The votes are in and this last week’s winner of the Clean Up, People (CUP) Award is seventh grade! Seventh graders have earned one day next week of Chromebooks at lunch or outside during advisory. This award will have a new grade-level winner each week so remember to Clean Up, People!
Attention students: Tomorrow and Wednesday, you will be taking your math MCAs. You will spend the first 2 hours of the testing days doing your MCA testing. Then you will report to all your classes but they will be shortened for the day. To start the day, you will report to your advisory classes unless you are told otherwise. Remember to bring your charged Chromebook, an IDR book, pencil, markers or colored pencils, and wired headphones.
Ms. Bjorlin recommends a novella (which is shorter than a typical novel) about a diverse group of strangers in a Cleveland neighborhood who transform a vacant lot into a community garden, and at the same time, they each experience their own transformations.
