Ms. Achman recommends Wonder by R.J. Palacio, a middle-grade novel about August "Auggie" Pullman, a boy with a severe facial difference who enters a mainstream fifth-grade class for the first time at Beecher Prep. Told from multiple perspectives, the story explores themes of empathy, bullying, friendship, and acceptance as Auggie navigates school and his community learns to see past his appearance. Upon reading Wonder, you will be encouraged by the message of both hope and kindness that are integrated into this story.
We had a great first day in HMS Spring Sports. Remember there is still time to register. Registration closes on April 13th. Any questions, swing by the media center.

The author’s craft for the book Ms. Achman recommends is stunning! She shifts six different points of view within the same story and artistically develops the characters. She was inspired to write this book when she encountered an extraordinary child in front of an ice cream shop.
The Media Center is closed. If your chromebook needs repair please see Ms. Zeyen in the Wellness Center. Staff, if you have already checked out time today you can still plan to bring your class down there.

It’s impossible not to be moved by the story Mrs. Achman recommends. How can you not love a boy who has had 27 surgeries and who understands that sometimes his mom might need his precious teddy bear more than he does? With a mixture of humor, sadness, and relatable themes, the book has the reader on a roller coaster of emotions.

Mrs. Achman recommends a book about a 10-year-old boy who has been homeschooled and is now going to school for the first time in his life. He has to navigate new rules, learn to interact with teachers, and figure out how to make new friends. He wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid, but his new classmates can’t get past this boy’s extraordinary physical features.
