Flexible Spending & VEBA

Over the course of the last six months we received notice that Further, the carrier for our flexible spending and VEBA accounts was sold and the new carrier would not be able to continue to provide us service.  As a result, we completed a process to review proposals and selected a new carrier, OneBridge, for these plans.  This change will take place effective July 1, 2022.

Unfortunately, because of the change in carrier, we will experience some disruption in access to funds and processing of claims, including a blackout period of about three weeks.  Below is a timeline of important dates you will want to be aware of as we near the end of the plan year and the change in plans:

June 16, 2022

  • Last date to submit 2021-2022 flexible spending and VEBA claims via phone, computer, etc., prior to the blackout period.
  • Debit cards will be frozen.
  • Claims submitted after this date will be pended until completion of the change in plans.

June 16, 2022 through July 5, 2022

  • Blackout period; no claims will be processed during this time.Any medical or dependent flexible spending claims received will stay in pending mode until July 6, 2022.

    July 6, 2022

  • 2021-2022 medical and dependent care flexible spending claims submitted after June 16, 2022, will be processed by Further.Claims for the 2021-2022 plan year can continue to be submitted to Further through the runout period, which ends on September 30, 2022.

    By July 11, 2022

  • Employees with funds in VEBA accounts will have access through their new account with OneBridge.
  • 2022-2023 medical and dependent care flexible spending claims will begin being processed by OneBridge.

    Mid-October, 2022

  • Any funds remaining in employees’ medical flex spending accounts, up to the maximum $550 carryover, will be transferred to OneBridge.


We anticipate that welcome packets and debit cards for OneBridge will be mailed to employees’ homes around July 1, 2022.
