There is no charging for students in Hastings Senior High School. There is no charging for staff. There is no charging during the last 2 weeks of school.
Procedures
Elementary Schools and Middle School
A reminder will be offered to the student when they have 5 lunches left. There will also be a “lunch money” hand stamp available for students to stamp their hand with a reminder that they need lunch money.
Reports of all negative balances will be printed out on a weekly basis. These will be given to the teachers to distribute. When a student reaches the charge limit of five meals, the principal will be notified by the cashier. The principal will then have further communications with the parents/student. At this point, the student may be offered a peanut butter sandwich and milk for lunch for a maximum of two weeks. At the principal’s discretion, the Food Service Department will send out a letter of the district’s policy.
It is the District’s goal to have students aware that they do not have credit left on their account before they go through the lunch line. Food Service will work with the building principal to develop a plan which notifies students that they have charged his/her limit before they go through the lunch or breakfast line. All negative account balances will be carried forward into the next school year.
